A Message from the Pastor . . .
After all of the planning, prayer, and fundraising, it’s hard to believe our trip to the Dominican Republic has come and gone already. I was so glad that many of you got a glimpse of what our trip was like on Sunday as our group shared the way we saw God move while we were gone. If you missed it, or would just like to know more about the trip and why it was so powerful, ask any one of us, and we we’ll be happy to talk your ear off!
It’s certainly a spiritual experience, a spiritual high, going on a trip like this one. We get out of our comfort zones, see poverty unlike what we find in the United States, steep ourselves in Scripture and prayer, and rely on one another to process our new experiences. The problem is, sometimes we think that it’s only through special trips that we can have these wonderful experiences in the presence of God. But I hope that our special trip can turn into everyday action. It’s not just on trips that we can step outside our comfort zones. It’s not just on trips we can steep ourselves in Scripture and prayer. It’s not just on special trips we can rely on each other and rely on Christ.
For those who went on the trip, I hope we can take those things home with us. For those who sent us out and supported us, I hope you can do those things at home too. Whether we were part of the group that sent the team or part of the team that went, we can all experience God in new ways here in Calypso. In fact, that’s our calling as Christians, to dive into prayer and Scripture as a way of life.
It’s our calling to rely on each other and support one another through all of life’s ups and downs. And it’s our calling to expect God to change our hearts, our minds, and our lives. Each night of our trip, we gathered together and talked about “God sightings.” We talked about how we saw God move in our lives that day. As we follow our calling to seek God in prayer and Scripture and mutual support, let’s open our eyes to God moving in our lives every day as we seek to live in light of God’s grace and mercy.

VBS Mission Project
Through Mission Emmanuel, we will be sponsoring a child from the Dominican. During their recent trip, our Mission Team had the chance to meet Abel and his mother. He is 4 yrs old and very shy. Our sponsorship will help send him to school. During the year, we will receive reports on how he is doing academically.
We hope you will support our 2012 VBS Mission Project. You can make a check out to the church and mark it as VBS Mission Project or place the money in an envelope and mark it the same way. Thank you again for your continued support. Please check out the bulletin boards for a picture of Abel.

Mission Trip to the Dominican Republic
Our Mission Team had a wonderful time in the Domincan, working with Mission Emmanuel. They worked on painting a house, laying cement floors and laying cinder block. They were exhausted by the end of the day, but felt really good about what they had done. They had such a great time, there is already talk about going again. A presentation of the trip is being planned.
There will be some activities planned to help raise money for the next mission trip. Whether it is here or abroad. Please come out and support these activities.
Thanks to all who participate in our Cents-Ability Program!
Wednesday, July 11th 6:30 in the fellowship hall. The movie is “Soul Surfer”. Soul Surfer is a 2011 American drama film about the life of surfer Bethany Hamilton. At the age of thirteen, Hamilton lost her arm to a shark attack. The film details the events surrounding this attack and her struggle during the aftermath. The word soul has a double meaning as a reference to Hamilton’s Christian Faith, which helped her recover her surfing career after the attack. Please bring a snack to share.
Church Web Page
Please be sure to check out the Church Web Page. Sarah is placing Nick’s sermons on there, in case you miss a Sunday. Put the church website on your favorites list and check back often.
Check us out on Facebook. This is one way for us to reach out to people and let everyone know what we are all about. We have placed pictures, events and news items on this page among other items. We feel it is another great way to keep up with what is going on in the life of our church. Look for us under Calypso Presbyterian Church.
